Fibromyalgia and other chronic conditions

There is no cure for fibromyalgia or other chronic conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, but physiotherapy treatment aims to ease your symptoms and improve your quality of life.

Fibromyalgia and other chronic conditions has a number of different symptoms, no single treatment will work for all of them. You will need to try a variety of treatments to find a mix that suits you. This will normally be a combination of treatment options, medication and lifestyle changes.

Treatment options which can be used to help cope with the pain of fibromyalgia and other chronic conditions include:

  • swimming, sitting or exercising in a heated pool or warm water
  • an individually tailored exercise programme
  • physiotherapy modalities such as massage, manual mobilisation techniques, triggerpoint therapy and dryneedling.
